A selection of six works from the Fifty Sisters series is currently showing as part of Synchron City. The exhibition leads visitors on a strange and immersive journey through contemporary art where artworks disrupt and question everyday life. Curated by Cassie May, Synchron City is currently showing at the Gippsland Art Gallery, in Sale, Victoria, from 6th December 2025 – 22nd February 2026.

The six images from Fifty Sisters (2012) are: Shell, BP, Arco, Chevron, ESSO and 76. The images, each 1m x 1m, are computer generated plant-forms, created from the graphic elements of oil company logos. A process akin to biological evolution was used to evolve the 3D forms in the computer. Each form is based on an Australian plant, but has been evolved and mutated by the aesthetic selection of the artist.
The title of the work refers to the "Seven Sisters" – a cartel of seven oil companies that dominated the global petrochemical industry and Middle East oil production from the mid-1940s until the oil crisis of the 1970s. By referencing plant forms, the work reminds us that humanity's global dependence on oil comes from Carboniferous plants that formed a large part of the Earth's flora millions of years ago.

Fifty Sisters was a commission for the Ars Electronica Museum, in Linz, Austria in 2012.
